Discern Sustainability was commissioned by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UN DRR) to write a report on the workings of the financial system. It explains how the system's various players; directly and indirectly affect the stock and management of disaster risk through their actions and omissions. Discern's thematic report is one of a number of studies that have informed a set of recommendations going to the General Assembly in New York in May 2023 assessing the world's progress in implementing the Sendai Framework for DRR, which countries signed up to in 2015. Inter alia, the UN DRR's final report and official recommendations strongly emphasise reform of the financial system as vital to the Sendai Framework reaching its goals.
